Historic Faith Statements

Statement of Belief

As members of the Christian Church,
We confess that Jesus is the Christ,
the Son of the living God,
and proclaim him Lord and Savior of the world.
In Christ’s name and by his grace
we accept our mission of witness
and service to all people.

We rejoice in God,
maker of heaven and earth,
and in God’s covenant of love
which binds us to God and to one another.
 Through baptism into Christ
we enter into newness of life
and are made one with the whole people of God.
In the communion of the Holy Spirit
we are joined together in discipleship
and in obedience to Christ. At the Table of the Lord
we celebrate with thanksgiving
the saving acts and presence of Christ.

Within the universal church
we receive the gift of ministry
and the light of scripture. In the bonds of Christian faith
we yield ourselves to God
that we may serve the One
whose kingdom has no end.

A New Creed

We are not alone,
we live in God’s world.
We believe in God:
who has created and is creating,
who has come in Jesus,
the Word made flesh,
to reconcile and make new,
who works in us and others by the Spirit.

We trust in God.

We are called to be the Church:
to celebrate God’s presence,
to live with respect in Creation,
to love and serve others,
to seek justice and resist evil,
to proclaim Jesus,
crucified and risen,
our judge and our hope.

In life, in death,
in life beyond death,
God is with us.
We are not alone.

Our Values

First Christian Church of Oklahoma City is a congregation seeking to be a safe, open, friendly, accepting, nurturing Christian home providing spiritual growth for ALL God’s people. We believe that God is calling us to be good stewards of God’s gifts. We believe we are called to use our resources and facilities to serve the community by offering spiritual enrichment through Worship, Christian Education, Fine Arts and Outreach Ministries. We value our past and the vision of those who, by their energies, gifts, and legacies, brought us to this place and point in time. We face the future with faith. With God’s presence and guidance, we believe that God will continue to strengthen our ministry for today and for tomorrow.

Our Beliefs and Statement of Calling

As a participating congregation of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) we affirm our beliefs as follows: We affirm the centrality of Jesus Christ in the life of discipleship. We affirm that we are called to minister to each other and to the world. We affirm that we will work in cooperative relationships within the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), among the various Christian denominations and communions and in relationship with those non-Christian traditions that are our neighbors. We affirm values of the Lord’s Supper and Baptism in our common life and worship.

The mission of First Christian Church of Oklahoma City is to invite all people to accompany us in our faith journey. Through worship, study, spiritual disciplines and service, we seek to experience the living presence of God in Jesus Christ.
