Love! Live! Give!
LOVE God, love self, and love each other unconditionally.
LIVE into our faith journey, shepherding one another.
GIVE of ourselves to make a difference in our world.
Our vision has its beginnings in a parable (story) by Jesus (Luke 10:25-37).
As it goes, there was an expert in the law who wanted to know how to inherit eternal life. Jesus turned the tables on him and asked him what the Law said. The man replied, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength; and love your neighbor as yourself.” Jesus told him that he had answered correctly. “Do this and you will live.” Wanting more, he asked Jesus, “So, who is my neighbor?”
Jesus said, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him, beat him, and left him half dead. Two separate religious leaders traveled by and saw him, and passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, an outcast among the Jewish people, saw him and took pity on him. He bandaged his wounds, put him on his own donkey, brought him to an inn for care.”
Jesus asked, “Which of these do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?” The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”
Author Reggie McNeal writes about this story in his book, Get Off Your Donkey. He says, “The moral of the story is that you have to get off your donkey to help somebody.”
We are called by Christ to be in the People Business! We may not be able to solve world hunger, but we can help feed those around us in need. We may not be able to find transportation for everyone in the world, but we can provide bicycles so that those in Oklahoma can get and keep a job, and possibly make a better life for themselves.
So, our vision is to Love, to Live, and to Give.
We seek to help one another LOVE our God, love ourselves, and love each other, whether the other is a friend, an acquaintance, or someone very unlike us. For everyone is our neighbor, no matter how different.
We are then called to LIVE into our faith. Faith is a journey that we embark upon together, helping one another along the way to deepen our understanding of God and humanity.
Then we are called to GIVE of ourselves, to get off our donkey and make a difference in our world.
